4:00 PM (Tea/Coffee at 3:45 PM)

VENUE: Seminar Hall, Department of Management Studies, IISc.

Abstract:
Renewable energy is a sustainable alternative to India’s dependency on carbon-based fuels. Carbon-based fuels make up nearly 18% of Indian imports while renewable energy is abundant in India easily capable of meeting our growing energy demand. However, renewable energy has huge diversity in its sources, has a vast geographical spread, and is intermit. These three features make renewable energy difficult to harvest. Creative solutions have been proposed, and yet the challenges remain. Green hydrogen economy is emerging out as a promising solution to all the hurdles associated with harnessing renewable energy. Green hydrogen can democratize energy generation, enable long-term storage, serve as an energetic chemical in various industrial applications, and replace carbon-based fuels. Here in this talk, I will review the green hydrogen ecosystem, recent developments therein, and outstanding challenges and opportunities. My talk will conclude with an outlook on India’s dream of energy self-reliance and India as a global energy superpower.
