Abstract:
India leads the global phenomenon of aspiration to be the most connected people’s country. Yet, India leads one of the highest percentages of population of those who are not meaningfully connected. India also offers a convincing model of Digital Public Infrastructure – UPI, Aadhaar, BharatNet, Mobile, ONDC and so on; Yet India has a situation of digital exclusion. Digital Empowerment Foundation has stories that offer a perfect ecosystem of how the digital divide could be fought, how digital could be inclusive, how digital means for marginalised, poor, and women. In this talk, Osama Manzar would bring in the learning’s of 25 years of digital dividend in India.

Osama Manzar is the Founder and Director of the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) and a Senior Ashoka Fellow. With over three decades of experience in journalism, technology, and social entrepreneurship, he works to bridge the information gap across India and the Global South through digital innovation. A British Chevening Scholar and US State Department IVLP Fellow, Osama has travelled to more than 10,000 villages across 40 countries, advising on digital models for underserved communities. Through DEF, his work has impacted over 1,500 locations globally. He also
writes a weekly column in Mint on technology, policy, and social change.
