Master of Management (Research)
A research-focused programme producing publishable output with a pathway into doctoral study
A shorter path to serious research
The Master of Management (Research) is designed for students who want to work on a substantive research problem with the rigour of a doctoral programme but over a shorter horizon. Students work closely with a faculty supervisor on a defined research question, develop the methodological skills to address it, and produce output that meets the standards of peer-reviewed publication.
The programme is particularly suited to students drawn to a specific research area — AI for organisations, energy policy, financial modelling, health systems, or water governance, — who are not yet ready to commit to a full PhD but want more than a taught programme. For those who wish to continue, the programme provides a natural foundation and pathway into doctoral study.
Programme objectives
What the programme is designed to develop in each student.
Develop the ability to identify a significant research problem, review relevant literature, and formulate a tractable research question.
Build methodological competence in at least one formal analytical tradition — quantitative modelling, empirical analysis, or qualitative institutional research.
Produce research output that meets the standards of peer-reviewed publication in management or related disciplines.
Develop the foundations for doctoral research for those who wish to continue.
